Welp, found out that it's easy to ban myself with fail2ban when you've got nginx sitting in front of apache... whoops.

@StevenSaus are you using nginx as a dispatcher? does your site only work with apache? Not sure why you'd have both in one implementation.

@WanderingBeekeeper I've got a very, VERY patchwork home lab setup across four physical machines, docker, etc. Some play nicer with nginx than with apache and vice versa... and some I've not bothered to change yet. It's not a big deal - it's the fopen jail, but most of the things that need jailing are caught by a custom jail I found (they're looking for phpMyAdmin, which I don't use).

That was more of an admitting my own screwups than needing help, lol! Thanks, though!

@StevenSaus thanks for the explanation. I'm not a hands on IT person myself, in my dayjob as a major incident manager, and not so much in my personal time. The opportunity to discuss and learn, and thus keep my awareness of the technology up, is appreciated.

@WanderingBeekeeper Oh, no problem! So yeah, the basic setup is that nginx proxies everything to a variety of things (docker, apache, standalone apps).

I'm sure there's a way to make it work, just haven't figured it out yet. The rest of the apache fail2ban jails seem to be working just fine, though.

@WanderingBeekeeper And thanks. Having a particularly lonely weekend, and it's nice to occasionally be reminded you're not just shouting into the void.
